West End Project Prompts Traffic Shift on Myra Road Next Week
Drivers in The Dalles should prepare for a change in their commute starting Monday, April 15th, as the ongoing infrastructure project on West 2nd Street and Myra Road enters its next phase. City officials announced the traffic pattern shift today, which will affect a key corridor for residents accessing the west-end commercial district and the Port of The Dalles Industrial Park.
The update means lane configurations and temporary signals will be adjusted to allow crews to work on the opposite side of the roadway. While specific details on the new pattern are pending a final construction update, the City’s Public Works Department advises motorists to expect potential delays and to follow all posted signage and flagger instructions.
“We know this is a vital route for our community and for commerce,” said a city engineer familiar with the project. “This shift is necessary to keep the project on schedule for its summer completion. We’re asking for everyone’s patience and caution, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.”
The multi-phase project, which began earlier this year, aims to replace aging water and sewer lines beneath the roadway before performing a full pavement overlay. The work is seen as critical preventative maintenance for infrastructure that serves both homes and major employers in the area.
Local business owners along the route have been notified of the change. The Dalles Police Department will have increased patrols in the area to monitor traffic flow and ensure safety during the transition. Real-time updates and official detour maps, if needed, will be posted on the City of The Dalles website and its social media channels.
