Rae’s Safe Haven to Open New LGBTQ+ Support Center in Boardman
Boardman is set to welcome a vital new community resource this spring. Rae’s Safe Haven, a well-established nonprofit dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, has announced plans to open a dedicated outreach center right here in town.
The new center aims to be a cornerstone of support for local residents, offering a safe and affirming space for social connection, peer support groups, and access to critical resources. Organizers state the facility will provide everything from counseling referrals and educational workshops to simple, welcoming gatherings where people can be themselves without judgment.
“Our mission has always been about meeting people where they are, and that now includes a physical home in Boardman,” said a founder of Rae’s Safe Haven. “Rural communities often face unique challenges in accessing inclusive services. We want to ensure that every person in our area knows they have a place to turn.”
The expansion into Boardman is seen as a direct response to growing need in Morrow County and surrounding areas. The center will not only serve LGBTQ+ youth and adults but will also offer guidance and resources for their families, schools, and local employers seeking to foster more inclusive environments.
Local advocates have praised the move, highlighting the importance of having dedicated support close to home. The opening date and exact location are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as final preparations are completed.
