Boardman Spartan Standout Swantek Commits to Run at Clarion University
In a move celebrated by the local sports community, Boardman High School senior distance runner Evan Swantek has officially committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Clarion University in Pennsylvania. Swantek, a key contributor to the Spartans’ cross country and track programs, will join the Golden Eagles’ roster this fall.
The announcement brings pride to Boardman’s tight-knit athletic circles, where Swantek’s dedication on the trails and track has been evident for years. His commitment to the NCAA Division II program highlights the caliber of student-athletes developed right here in Morrow County.
“It’s always a special moment when one of our own takes that next step,” said a Boardman High School athletics official. “Evan has put in the miles and the work, both in season and off. He represents the spirit and discipline we try to instill in all our Spartan athletes.”
At Clarion, Swantek is expected to compete in both cross country and track & field, events where his endurance and strategic racing have shone locally. His decision underscores a pathway familiar to many Eastern Oregon athletes: leveraging high school success into an opportunity at the collegiate level, often far from home.
Friends, family, and teammates in Boardman are rallying behind Swantek as he prepares for this new chapter. His journey from training on local courses to competing in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference serves as an inspiration for younger Spartans lacing up their running shoes.
