Boardman Police Seize Stolen Handgun During Routine Traffic Stop
A routine traffic stop on Boardman’s main thoroughfares led to the recovery of a stolen firearm this week, highlighting proactive police work in our community. According to the Boardman Police Department, an officer initiated a stop for a minor vehicle code violation.
During the interaction, the officer developed reasonable suspicion to investigate further. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a handgun that had been reported stolen from outside Morrow County. The driver, whose name has not yet been released pending formal charges, was taken into custody.
“This is a prime example of how vigilant patrol and attention to detail can directly enhance public safety,” said a department spokesperson. “Getting a stolen weapon off our streets prevents potential future crimes.”
While the investigation remains ongoing, authorities confirm the incident is isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public related to this seizure. The case will be forwarded to the Morrow County District Attorney’s Office for review of possible charges including unlawful possession of a firearm.
Local residents are reminded to always secure their firearms and report any theft immediately. The department also encourages citizens to report any suspicious activity, noting that community tips combined with officer initiative are key tools in maintaining safety in Boardman and the surrounding rural areas.
