Boardman Area Sees Major Milestone as Tower Solar Project Nears Completion
In a significant boost for local renewable energy, Avangrid has announced the completion of a major installation phase at the Tower Solar Project near Boardman. Crews have successfully placed 250,000 solar panels, all manufactured in the United States, across the site’s sprawling footprint in Morrow County.
The 166-megawatt project, one of the largest in the state, is now entering its final stages of construction. When fully operational later this year, it will generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 35,000 homes. This output represents a substantial contribution to Oregon’s green energy goals and grid stability.
“This milestone is about more than just megawatts,” said a local project manager on site. “It’s about investing in American manufacturing and bringing long-term jobs and economic benefits right here to our region.” The construction phase has already provided a surge of temporary employment and local contracting work for Boardman-area businesses.
Located on previously agricultural land, the project also incorporates a dual-use model, allowing for continued sheep grazing around the panel arrays. This approach supports local ranchers while maintaining the land’s productive use. The Tower Solar Project underscores Boardman’s evolving role as a key hub for Oregon’s energy future, blending traditional industries with new, sustainable technology.
