Rae’s Safe Haven to Open New LGBTQ+ Support Hub in Boardman
In a significant step for local community services, Rae’s Safe Haven has announced plans to establish a new outreach center dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ residents in Boardman and the surrounding Morrow County area. The center aims to provide a vital, welcoming space for resources, connection, and advocacy.
“We see a real need for accessible, affirming support right here in our own community,” said a representative for the organization. The new hub will offer a range of services, including peer support groups, mental health resource navigation, and educational workshops for both LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. Organizers emphasize creating a safe environment where people can seek guidance without having to travel to larger metropolitan areas.
The initiative has been met with support from several local advocates who have long worked to foster inclusivity in Eastern Oregon. They note that while Boardman is a tight-knit community, specialized resources for LGBTQ+ youth and adults can be scarce in rural regions.
Rae’s Safe Haven, which has roots in providing crisis support and community building, plans to collaborate with existing local health and social service providers to ensure a comprehensive network of care. The center will also focus on training for local businesses and organizations on creating inclusive environments.
An official opening date and location are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The organization is currently seeking volunteers and community input to help shape the center’s programs to best serve the specific needs of Boardman residents.
