Boardman Police Join Statewide Push for Sober Easter Travel on I-84

As families across Morrow County prepare for Easter gatherings, the Boardman Police Department is announcing its participation in a coordinated statewide traffic safety initiative. Local officers will be conducting enhanced patrols and a sobriety checkpoint focused on removing impaired drivers from area roadways, particularly along the critical commercial and commuter corridor of Interstate 84.

“Holiday weekends see increased travel to visit loved ones, and we want everyone to arrive safely,” said a Boardman Police spokesperson. “Our goal is prevention and education, but we will have zero tolerance for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.” The operation is part of a broader Oregon traffic safety campaign funded by grants aimed at reducing fatal crashes.

Authorities emphasize that the checkpoint will be clearly marked and conducted in accordance with all legal requirements. Drivers can expect brief delays as officers check for signs of impairment. The location and timing of the checkpoint are not being disclosed in advance, but patrols will be increased throughout the weekend in and around Boardman.

Police are urging residents to plan ahead. “If your Easter celebration includes alcohol, designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or stay where you are,” the spokesperson advised. “A simple plan can prevent a tragedy on our local roads.” The message is clear for those traveling to Pasco, Hermiston, or Pendleton: a safe ride home is the only acceptable choice.
