Wawa Issues Voluntary Recall of Store-Brand Drinks in Virginia Over Undeclared Allergen Concerns
Popular convenience chain Wawa has initiated a voluntary recall of several of its store-brand beverages sold in Virginia and across its multi-state footprint. The recall affects specific 20-ounce bottles of Wawa-brand Iced Tea Lemon, Fruit Punch, Diet Lemon Tea, and Green Tea due to potential undeclared milk allergens.
The company stated the recall is a precautionary measure after discovering that some bottles may contain milk, an ingredient not listed on the product label. For individuals with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity, consuming these products could pose a serious health risk, ranging from hives and digestive distress to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
“The safety of our customers is our highest priority,” a Wawa spokesperson said in a statement. “We are taking immediate action to remove these products from our store shelves and are working closely with our supplier to investigate this issue.” The affected drinks were available in Wawa stores, including the hundreds located throughout Virginia.
Customers who have purchased the 20-ounce bottles with specific “enjoy by” dates of OCT 26 24 and NOV 2 24 are urged not to consume them. They can return the products to any Wawa location for a full refund. Consumers with questions can contact Wawa Customer Care directly. No other Wawa products or sizes are involved in this recall.
This incident highlights the critical importance of accurate food labeling, especially for the millions of Americans managing food allergies. Virginia residents who rely on Wawa’s extensive network of stores are advised to check their refrigerators and dispose of any affected products immediately.
