Former President Trump Touts Economic Record, Criticizes Iran at Miami Investment Summit
In a keynote address to a packed audience of investors and business leaders in Miami, former President Donald Trump framed the upcoming election as a pivotal choice for the nation’s economic future. Speaking at the “Trump Town Hall” hosted by the Hispanic Business Council, he contrasted his administration’s policies with the current economic climate under President Biden.
“We had the greatest economy in the history of our country,” Trump stated, pointing to pre-pandemic lows in unemployment and inflation. He argued that a return to his policies on energy, regulation, and taxes would reignite growth and benefit South Florida’s dynamic business community, a hub for international finance and entrepreneurship.
Shifting to foreign policy, Trump took aim at Iran, claiming the nation’s leadership is currently “begging to make a deal” with the United States. He did not specify the nature of the purported deal but reiterated his past criticism of the 2015 nuclear agreement, from which he withdrew the U.S. in 2018. “They have no money, they have no nothing,” he said of Iran, suggesting the country is in a weakened position.
The speech, delivered in a key battleground state, underscored Trump’s focus on economic and national security issues as central themes for his campaign. For Miami executives with global portfolios, his comments highlighted the potential for significant shifts in international trade and diplomatic relations should he return to the White House.
