Boardman Area Sees Major Milestone as Avangrid’s Tower Solar Project Nears Completion
Residents of Morrow County have a new landmark on the horizon. Avangrid, Inc. has announced the completion of mechanical installation at its massive Tower Solar project, located just outside Boardman. This marks a critical step toward bringing one of Oregon’s largest solar farms fully online.
The 166-megawatt facility, sprawling across local land, now has all its physical components—including thousands of solar panels and mounting systems—in place. While final electrical testing and grid connection work remains, this “mechanical completion” is a signal that the project is transitioning from construction to power generation.
“This is a significant investment in our community and in Oregon’s clean energy future,” said a local project manager familiar with the site. “Seeing the physical build finished is a testament to the hard work of many local contractors and laborers over the past months.”
Once operational, the Tower Solar project is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 40,000 homes annually. The power will be fed into the regional grid, contributing to the state’s renewable portfolio goals and providing a stable, long-term source of clean energy.
For Boardman, the project represents more than just megawatts. It has brought construction jobs to the area and will provide ongoing tax revenue for local services. As the final commissioning phase begins, the community watches as its landscape plays a growing role in powering the Pacific Northwest.
