Drivers on Interstate 5 near Albany got a shock this week that was straight out of a horror movie, but with a distinctly Oregonian twist. A truck carrying millions of honeybees to pollinate local farms met with disaster, releasing its buzzing cargo across the busy highway and creating a chaotic scene that brought traffic to a standstill.

According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred when the straps securing the bee boxes failed. The resulting swarm, described as a massive, dark cloud, engulfed multiple lanes. “It was surreal,” said one motorist from Eugene who was caught in the backup. “One minute it’s a normal drive, the next you’re surrounded by millions of bees. You could hear the hum over your engine.”

Emergency responders and local beekeepers were called to the scene for a delicate and dangerous cleanup operation.
