Multi-Vehicle Collision Snarls Afternoon Traffic on Route 7 Near Ashburn
A multi-vehicle collision brought westbound traffic to a standstill on Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) during the busy Thursday afternoon commute, causing significant delays for Loudoun County drivers.
According to Virginia State Police, the incident occurred near the intersection with Ashburn Village Boulevard just after 4:30 p.m. Initial reports indicate a two-vehicle collision blocked two lanes, creating a major bottleneck for commuters heading out of the Ashburn area towards Leesburg and beyond.
First responders from the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office arrived quickly on the scene. While details on injuries are still preliminary, officials confirmed at least one individual was transported to a local hospital with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash caused ripple effects throughout the surrounding road network. Traffic backed up past the Dulles Greenway toll plaza, with side streets like Belmont Ridge Road and Farmwell Road seeing increased volume as drivers sought alternate routes. The delays persisted for over two hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and conduct a preliminary investigation.
“It’s a reminder, especially as we head into the weekend, to please slow down and stay focused,” said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office. “That stretch of Route 7 sees a high volume of traffic at all hours, and a moment of distraction can have serious consequences.”
As of 7:00 p.m., all lanes have been reopened and traffic flow has returned to normal. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
