Ashburn Eyes Unique St. Patrick’s Day Festivities, But Locals Prefer Traditional Fare
As images of quirky St. Patrick’s Day celebrations from across the country flood social media, Ashburn residents are gearing up for their own local traditions. While a town out West famously marks the day with a “Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry,” a culinary adventure involving fried bull testicles, the vibe here in Loudoun County tends to lean more towards classic Irish pubs and family-friendly events.
“We’ve seen the stories from Virginia City, Nevada—it’s certainly a unique take on the holiday,” said Maureen O’Connell, manager of a popular Irish-themed restaurant in the Ashburn Village Center. “But here, our patrons are looking for corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, and a perfectly poured Guinness. That’s the Ashburn way to celebrate.”
Local establishments are preparing for a busy weekend, with many hosting live Celtic music, face painting for children, and green beer specials. The focus remains on community gathering rather than adventurous eating. The Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department is even hosting a charity breakfast on Saturday, proving the holiday spirit extends beyond the pub doors.
While the idea of a “Rocky Mountain” fry might draw curious glances and a few laughs from Ashburn’s residents, it’s the familiar comforts of local camaraderie that truly define the St. Patrick’s Day experience here. Whether it’s enjoying a meal with family or sharing a laugh with friends at a neighborhood spot, the luck of the Irish in Ashburn is found in its own cherished customs.
